We designed a contemporary new-build extension to the Grade I listed Stratford House, a landmark historical building which is home to The Oriental Club.
Overall, the scheme provides eight new guest bedrooms, improved sanitary facilities, new and upgraded staff accommodation and reworked back of house facilities including new office space. The external form of the intervention is sympathetic to the original building whilst offering a modern twist. The extension sits recessed in plan and elevation, avoiding dominance over its neighbours. The saw tooth plan form ensures daylight provision and an external aspect for the guest rooms.
