Langdon Park Station

Shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Best Public Building Award, this new DLR station and replacement pedestrian bridge in east London acts a beacon for the regeneration of Poplar. By creating a new open bridge and highly-lit sculptural scenic lift towers, the new station provides a permanent visual connection from the track crossing to the lift towers and platforms. A monocoque canopy sails over the bridge as a suspended ‘fin’.

Extensive community consultation resulted in a desire for a clear and open building that created a sense of place and pride. Careful consideration was given to the choice of the materials, including the use of ETFE for the platform canopies in lieu of glass. Innovative construction methods were used such as fibre reinforced plastic for the boom, creating a new style of transparent transit station.
