The new administrative hub was designed for 600 borough council staff, returning them from an out-of-town business park to this newly created ‘Civic Quarter’ of Ipswich.
Situated next to the Crown Court, opposite the Suffolk County Council headquarters and behind Ipswich Town football ground, the building was planned as the first phase of a development to include the County Police headquarters, establishing a new civic zone for public services and employment.
In addition to providing much needed regeneration through local employment, the building offers an animated façade with two shops, a one-stop services drop-in centre and hosts interactive art installations within the ground floor glazing, showcasing local artists.
Winner of the BCO Best Corporate Workplace, the scheme was applauded by the judges who commented: ‘This is a great example of local authorities working together with landowners and investors to regenerate a declining area.’
