The Lowry Hotel

As architects of this landmark hotel in Manchester, we were also appointed to work closely with Olga Polizzi and the RF Hotels team to deliver the specialist interior design of the hotel.

The interiors were inspired by the artist LS Lowry in the use of colour and artwork as well as integrating bespoke commissioned artwork from artists such as Bruce McClean, David Begbie and Emily Young.

In the entrance lobby, the bespoke reception counter was clad in a series of specially cast riven glass slabs, inspired by the downstream movement of the River Irwell, adjacent to the site. The entrance lobby is a highly contemporary space with a dramatic floating stair spanning two floors across a wide void that connects through to the bar, restaurant, conference space and spa treatment rooms.

The 290 rooms are dramatic and elegant in their design, with bespoke sliding three-part curtains to cover the 5m wide full-height windows and with pre-fabricated bathrooms, delivered to site fully finished. Attention to detail and a design-classic, fit to last, was central to our approach.
