Northamptonshire Civic Centre

The development created a single town centre headquarters for Northamptonshire County Council, enabling its workforce to move from over 40 dispersed offices into a single location.

This was a strategic civic project and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rejuvenate the town centre by completing a missing piece of urban grain. One of five strategic public assets, the project was part of the Northampton Alive plan.

Key objectives and successes were to provide a catalyst for the regeneration of Northampton, relate carefully to its historic context, respect the Grade I listed County Hall complex and to create a new innovative and progressive benchmark for public sector office space in terms of sustainability and well-being of users.

Accommodating over 2,300 staff in only three floors and embracing fully modern ways of working in an open and collaborative style, the building was opened in summer 2017 and has won a regional RIBA award and a RICS award.
